Cables and bracing systems/rods are a form of support for the
tree's structure. They are meant to reduce the risk of a tree
becoming structurally unstable due to multiple stems or branches
that are weak.
Cables are installed in the upper crown of the tree, using extra
high strength steel cables fastened to bolts. These cables are meant
to lessen the movement of the branches they are supporting so that
failure is less likely during a storm.
Bracing systems are threaded rods that are installed through the
weak points of a tree, such as in areas of multiple stems or where
weak braches have occurred. This is done to create more rigidity in
the tree, so that twisting, which can occur during stormy weather,
is reduced.
These structural support methods are highly effective, but can only
be installed by a trained arborist after a detailed inspection.
